Buying a pre-owned vehicle should come with complete confidence, transparency, and clarity from start to finish. In Ontario, purchasing through a registered UCDA member dealership ensures you are backed by strict statutory protections and industry-leading ethical standards. From guaranteed clear titles to full vehicle history disclosures, our built-in safety nets protect your investment and wallet every step of the way.
Unlike private sales, UCDA member dealerships are legally required to disclose critical vehicle history facts prior to signing, including structural/frame damage, daily rental history, out-of-province registration, and major collision repairs exceeding provincial thresholds.
UCDA dealers guarantee that vehicles sold are free of outstanding bank debts or financial liens. Private purchases carry the risk of repossession if the previous owner owed money on the vehicle.
The price advertised by a member dealer is the price you pay (plus applicable HST and licensing). No hidden administration fees or surprise additions added at signing.
The United Car Dealers Association (UCDA) is a trade association, established in 1984, firmly committed to educating, representing, and supporting registered motor vehicle dealers across Ontario. UCDA members are expected to respect our core values of integrity and professionalism in everything they do.
Every UCDA member dealership commits to uphold our official Code of Ethics:
To provide fair and honest service to the public and the industry.
To carry on business in a fashion that enables consumers to “buy with confidence”.
To promote and convey a positive image on behalf of all dealers and support efforts to improve the industry’s products and services.
To be mindful of the public’s safety and well-being when offering products and services.
To strive to ensure consumers fully understand what is being offered to them.
To promote the benefits of industry products and services without being unfairly critical of those offered by other dealers.
To advertise in accordance with the law and in terms that are simple to understand.
To advertise without being misleading or deceptive and to support full disclosure in all vehicle transactions.
To deliver on all promises and contractual obligations – whether written or verbal – and to deal with reasonable complaints fairly and promptly.
Buying from a UCDA member dealer comes with built-in safety nets. If an unexpected dispute or misunderstanding occurs following your purchase, the UCDA provides free, neutral mediation services to help buyers and member dealers reach a prompt and fair resolution.
Mediation Step-by-Step:
Reach out directly to the dealership management to discuss the issue.
If unresolved, contact the UCDA Consumer Services department at 1‑800‑268‑2598.
A UCDA representative will review transaction details, contract disclosures, and Code of Ethics obligations.
We work with both parties to reach a mutually agreeable outcome without expensive legal fees.
